Shabbos in One Hour: Summer Fun

shabbos_one_hour

Right before I sat down to type this I received an email from my son’s camp reminding me to tip his counselors for the first half of camp.

Didn’t summer just begin?? How can it be almost half way over? Wow, does time fly.

We don’t have any summer vacations planned, but are taking advantage of the nice weather. We’ve been going on family weekend trips all while trying to relax.

And speaking of relaxing… I did not want to cook this Shabbos, so I prepared the most simple menu I could.  It includes a mix of homemade and store-bought and I’m ok with that.

The Menu

I tried to make this menu kind of small, since we won’t be able to eat the leftovers because of the 9 Days.  The only reason we’re having so much turkey is because it’s easy to make and was already in our freezer.  Although I might miss having cake for dessert, watermelon is a much healthier option!

Friday Night:

  • Turkey legs
  • Sweet potatoes
  • String beans
  • Watermelon (dessert)

Shabbos Lunch:

  • Turkey chops
  • Potato kugel (store-bought)
  • Broccoli
  • Watermelon (dessert)

The Shopping List

  • Gefilte fish (onion and carrots too)
  • Turkey legs
  • Turkey chops
  • Potato kugel
  • Sweet potatoes
  • String beans
  • Broccoli
  • Watermelon

The Plan

  1. Cook gefilte fish
  2. Prepare and cook turkey chops
  3. Put broccoli in microwave (yes, that’s how I cook it!)
  4. Put turkey legs, sweet potatoes and string beans into pan.  Add seasoning and put in fridge.  (I usually put this into the oven 2 hours before Shabbos)

Wishing everyone a wonderful Shabbos!

Until next time,
Shaindy
