Wow, has the world changed within the last month! Things here have been hectic to say the least, but I think we’ve been doing pretty well. We have a stocked freezer and have been working and schooling from home.
We have turned our dining room table into our central station. The laptops are set up and the table is filled with wires, papers and pencils.
I made a schedule for the kids that we have hanging on our wall. The schedule is stored in Google Spreadsheets so I can add their class Zoom links as hyperlinks within the document. I saved a shortcut of the schedule on every laptop so that the kids can now access the links and sign in to their classes by themselves. As soon as a teacher sends a new link, I update the hyperlink so that everyone has the most updated information.
To make our house run smoothly I assign a chore to each child every day. They can unload the dishwasher, vacuum or put the laundry in the dryer. They can also straighten up their rooms and clear their dishes from the table.
Within all this madness there have been some really nice surprises. We have a family dinner every night. We are all taking care of each other. We are learning to use the things we have (and not rely so heavily on Amazon and quick errands). There are no trains to catch. I am working flex-time, which makes me less stressed about being there for my kids when they need me. And we’re not rushing all the time. I finally feel like I can breathe.
Until next time,
Shaindy
